Retirement Income Planning in Arlington, Started Years Ahead

Retirement goes better when you know where each month's income will come from. We help you add up Social Security, pensions and savings, find the gap, and compare insurance-based options that can fill it. Starting five or ten years out leaves you room to choose.

What Retirement Income Planning Means Here

Most people save for retirement. Fewer work out how those savings turn into a paycheck that arrives every month for twenty or thirty years. That second step is what we help with. We look at the income you can count on, the bills you expect, and the space between the two.

As a life insurance agency, our tools are insurance products: fixed and fixed indexed annuities, and permanent life insurance with cash value. For each one, we go over the mechanics, the penalty for pulling money out ahead of schedule, and who receives what remains after you are gone. We do not manage stock portfolios. If you already work with a financial advisor, we are glad to fit in alongside them.

The earlier you start, the more choices stay open. Someone at 55 can spread contributions out and compare carefully. Someone who waits until the last paycheck often has fewer options and less time to decide.

What We Cover Together

  1. 01

    Your monthly gap, written down

We line up the bills you expect each month against income that's already guaranteed, like Social Security or a pension. The difference becomes the target the rest of the plan works toward.

  2. 02

    When to claim Social Security

Claiming early, at full retirement age or at 70 each produces a different monthly check. We run the numbers for each and build the plan around the age you actually plan to claim.

  3. 03

    Comparing annuities

If guaranteed lifetime income fits your needs, we put fixed and fixed indexed annuities next to each other. You see the payout, surrender schedule and any rider fees in writing before deciding.

  4. 04

    Pension options with a spouse

Single-life and joint-survivor pension payouts differ a lot. We show when a life insurance policy can protect a spouse if you take the higher single-life payment, and when the math doesn't work.

  5. 05

    Policies you already have

An older whole life or universal life policy may carry cash value you've lost track of. We go through the policy with you and explain what it could add.

Signs It Is Time to Plan Your Retirement Income

  • You'll stop working within ten years

The years just before you leave work are when annuity choices and your Social Security claiming age matter most. Each year you wait usually narrows your options.

  • You don't know your monthly figure

If you know your balance but not how much monthly income it can produce, a plan supplies that missing answer.

  • You've been offered a pension buyout

Taking a lump sum or a monthly check is a big decision that usually can't be undone. Compare the two side by side first.

  • Market drops make you anxious

Some people rest easier with part of their income guaranteed no matter what markets do. We can show what setting up that portion would cost.

  • Your spouse relies on your income

When one paycheck or pension supports two people, the plan has to cover what happens after one of you dies.

  • You're rolling over a 401(k)

Leaving a job is a good time to decide where that money goes and how it will pay you later.

How the Planning Works

  1. 1

    A first conversation by phone

We talk about when you hope to stop working, what income you expect and what worries you most. No paperwork yet, just the picture.

  2. 2

    Gathering your numbers

You pass along Social Security estimates, pension statements and any existing policies you would like us to look over. We are happy to sit down with you at your place of business, or cover all of it over the phone if that suits you better.

  3. 3

    Building the comparison

We put together a written summary of your income gap and two or three options to cover it. Each one lists the costs, the surrender period and what a beneficiary would receive.

  4. 4

    Deciding at your pace

You keep the summary, ask questions and decide when you are ready. If you apply, we handle the paperwork and check back once a year as your plans change.

What Shapes the Cost of Your Plan

There is no single price for retirement income, because every plan covers a different gap. What you pay depends on how much income you want guaranteed and how much time you give it to grow. We lay out each figure in writing so nothing comes as a surprise later.

How early you start
More years before income begins usually means smaller contributions for the same monthly payout. Starting late compresses everything.
The size of the gap
Covering a small shortfall costs far less than replacing most of a paycheck. We often suggest guaranteeing the essentials and leaving the rest flexible.
Optional add-ons
A rider that locks in lifetime withdrawals, one that raises payments with inflation, or one that keeps income flowing to a surviving spouse can each be worth having, and each carries its own fee. We quote them one by one, so you can drop any that do not justify what they cost.
Age and health when you apply
For any life insurance piece of the plan, age and health drive the premium. For annuities, age mostly affects the payout rate.
Access to your money
Products with longer surrender periods often pay more, but tie up funds longer. We match the schedule to when you might actually need the cash.

Retirement Income Planning Questions

When should I start planning my retirement income?

Ten to fifteen years before you stop working is a comfortable time to begin. That gives you room to compare products and spread out contributions. Even a few years ahead is far better than deciding in the final month.

Is this only for people with large retirement accounts?

Not at all. Many of the clients we sit down with have modest savings and simply want the basic bills covered every month. Often the work is about stretching a smaller nest egg so it lasts, rather than managing a big one.

Can I lose money in an annuity?

Fixed and fixed indexed annuities are not invested directly in the stock market, so your principal does not drop when the market does. The guarantees depend on the financial strength of the insurance company, which we review with you. Taking money out during the surrender period can cost you, and we explain that schedule before you sign.

What happens to the money if I die early?

That depends on the product and the options you pick. Many annuities and all life insurance policies let you name a beneficiary who receives a remaining balance or benefit. We walk through exactly what your beneficiary would get under each option.

Does Texas tax change the plan?

Texas has no state income tax, so the planning focuses on federal taxes. We point out how different products are taxed when they pay out, and we suggest checking the details with your tax preparer.

Will this replace my financial advisor?

It does not have to. We focus on insurance-based income, and plenty of clients keep their advisor for investments. We are happy to share our summary with them so everyone works from the same numbers.
